Rockie Fresh opened up about his decision to sign with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group. The young rhymer revealed how difficult the decision was and exactly why he decided to go with Rozay’s imprint instead of Diddy’s Bad Boy label.
"I’m a super humble dude and prior to getting offers, I didn’t even expect to get signed by other rappers," Fresh revealed. "When Ross and Diddy both hit me up in the same week and they were interested in taking meetings, it was just one of those things where I felt so blessed by it — I didn’t take it like a bidding war. It’s an honor. The thing with Ross is, Diddy’s the number one dude on Forbes right now, he’s got a label that’s been going on forever and it’s one of those things where he’s always going to be a force in the industry and also, you know, Maybach is his little brother. It’s one of those things where I just wanted to be a part of a new movement and really be a part of making history in the long-run and kind of making sure Ross gets to that same level Diddy gets to."

Three 6 Mafia founder Juicy J has found solo success, with his new single “Bandz A Make Her Dance” getting airplay, and hip hop fans buzzing about his affiliation with Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang crew. During an interview with Hot 97, Juicy talked about the state of Three 6 and emphasized that there has been no breakup, despite the fact that he’s doing his own thing.
"Three 6 [Mafia] still is tight, but right now, I’m doing my solo thing," said J. "It’s not broken up. No."
"Everything’s still good, I talk to Paul every other day," he added. "I promise, man. I don’t sugarcoat sh*t."
As far as his signing with Khalifa’s Taylor Gang, he explained how he met Wiz and what excites him about his new crew.
"I’m with Taylor Gang; we gettin’ it in. We got a serious operation going on right now. We’ve got a deal with Kemosabe Records, shout out to Dr. Luke," he shared. "I met Wiz on Twitter…We met him in L.A. for the first time years ago. We did records together, and we just became family members since then."
Nicki Minaj is at the center of a dispute with the Zouk nightclub in Dallas, TX. The Young Money superstar was slated to appear at the venue following her performance at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, and promoters claim she signed a contract and was paid $30,000 but failed to appear.
Prior to the scheduled event, Nicki tweeted that there was no after party and warned her Twitter followers about fake promoters.
A club representative denied Nicki’s insinuation. “From my understanding, she was outside, she had shown up, her security had done a walk-through and she just decided not to come in,” Zouk spokesperson Matt Cislo said. The club is offering fans a refund, but hasn’t stated whether or not it intends to sue for breach of contract.
A$AP Rocky spoke proudly about his upcomingLongLiveA$AP project during a recent interview with Fuse. The rapper shared that he’s poured himself completely into the album and doesn’t think the media, fans or industry is prepared for what he has coming.
"There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears put into this project," he shared. "For the most part, I’m very happy but I’ve never been in this much pain in my life. All my pain was devoted and sacrificed for this project. This is the most passionate thing that I did…There’s nothing out that’s gonna be compatible to what I’m about to put out with this [album]. Nobody’s project is gonna be touching this because it’s not just Hip Hop. This is a revolution. This is a new start of something new. I embarked on something new…I don’t think the world is ready for what I’m about to give them."
"I’m working on a documentary for London. It’s gonna come on the news," he also shared. "They support me. I love London."
Odd Future may have already publicly voiced their support for group member Frank Ocean coming out about his bisexuality, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to take the situation seriously. Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt took the time to poke a little fun and play dumb about the situation during an interview with MTV.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about," said Tyler emphatically when the subject was brought up.
"I think it’s crazy that that n—-a likes bagels like that; for the longest he was frontin’," said Earl. "We’d go to the store like, ‘N—-a do you want some bagels?’ and He’ll be like, ‘I don’t f—- with bagels.’"
Kanye West is getting the best out of Pusha T. At least, that’s how the G.O.O.D. Music rapper views Kanye’s guidance. In a recent interview, Pusha admitted that Kanye continues to force him to revise his verses and sharpen his craft—despite his status as one of the more established artists on G.O.O.D.’s roster.
“As far as revisions go and revising your verse when you’re dealing with G.O.O.D. Music, it happens to all of us,” Pusha T admitted. “I have never rewritten more verses in my life than right now,” he said. “Being signed to G.O.O.D. it just comes with the territory, man. These guys are perfectionists. I write verses and already think they’re perfect. At the end of the day, ‘Ye will come through and be like, ‘Ah, no. We can do better or we can edit that out.’ He’s really taught me in a sense of what he’s looking for now, so now I sort of got it down to a science so I don’t got to revisit it so much. But it’s not beyond any of us. We revise stuff all the time.”
“It’s not humbling because you have to look at who’s telling you to revise your verse,” he added. “I never look at revision or any type of criticism as humbling when it’s coming from a 90-time Grammy winner. You’ve got to listen to somebody. Music is still a learning experience for me. I came into the game under super producers; I deal with super producers a lot, whether it be Pharrell, whether it be Kanye, whether it be The-Dream. You have to listen to somebody. Me specifically, I have to. I’m a rapper.”
Lupe Fiasco, in a frank interview with The Breakfast Club, revealed that he’s looking forward to wrapping up his major label contract with Atlantic Records. The rapper’s disputes with his label have been well-documented over the years, and he says that after his next album on Atlantic, he will be taking the independent route.
"We’re coming toward the end of our relationship so it’s like a going away party," he said. "After this album, I got one [album] left. So, it’s all good for now. They give me my room. I’m definitely not going back into the majors. I’m definitely going indie when we’re done."
"It was never meant to be a big radio kind of record, kind of like Lasers was with big radio records,” he shared. “This is more like a core Hip Hop joint so we have room to throw six records out.”
Rapper Game and his fiancee/girlfriend, Tiffany Cambridge, will be getting married, after all.
At least, as of right now the wedding is back on.
A week after announcing that the were breaking off their engagement—an announcement that came just a few days after announcing they would be filming a reality show about their wedding—it is being reported that the West Coast hip hop star and his lady will indeed be jumping the broom.
No details were given regarding the change of heart.
